Steps to use
How to use Matte Permanent Adhesive Vinyl.
-
1
Prepare the surface
- Choose a smooth, clean, dry surface and test a small piece for adhesion. Use a cleaner suited to the blank (often isopropyl alcohol); some plastics and finishes can be damaged by strong solvents.
- Let any paint or sealant fully cure before applying vinyl.
-
2
Set up your design
- Measure your project and size the artwork. Leave Mirror off for a normal front-facing decal.
- Keep very small lettering and fine details manageable for your cutter and the finished surface.
-
3
Load and test cut
- Place the vinyl on a suitable cutting mat with the backing/carrier sheet down and the matte colour facing up.
- On our Cricut, we start with the Premium Vinyl setting. Do a small test cut first: the vinyl should cut cleanly while the paper backing stays intact. Adjust for your machine and blade.
-
4
Cut and weed
- Cut the full design. Remove the surrounding vinyl and unwanted pieces inside letters, leaving the design on the paper backing.
-
5
Add transfer tape
- Start with Standard Grip transfer tape and test that it both lifts and releases the design. Apply it over the vinyl and rub with a scraper.
- Turn the piece over and slowly peel away the backing/carrier sheet. If any detail stays behind, rub over it again before continuing.
-
6
Apply and finish the decal
- Check the position, then lower the design onto the surface gradually. Smooth from the centre outwards to help avoid bubbles.
- Rub over the design through the tape, then peel the tape back slowly, keeping it close to the surface.
- Check that the edges are down and leave the item undisturbed while the adhesive develops its bond.
